30 FREE Nook Books from Barnes and Noble

Let me first say that I am cautious when choosing email subscriptions.  Like many others, I have witnessed an influx of unsolicited messages clogging my inbox after innocently sharing my email address online.  One of the chosen few subscriptions I enjoy receiving is from Barnes & Noble, and with good reason.  I look forward to opening these emails to see what deals await me and to read about updates on my favorite new gadget, the Nook Color. I just received this one from Barnes & Noble and felt compelled to share...

Go to any Barnes & Noble store and show them your old eReader. When you buy any NOOK, they'll give you 30 FREE books to start your NOOK library - a $315 value!

I initially looked into eReaders in an attempt to simplify life through the reduction of clutter.  If I could have all of my books on a single device (it holds 1000's) rather than adding to the masses that currently fill my shelves this would be a step in the right direction.  After researching my options, I chose the Nook Color and I couldn't be happier.  It's not the cheapest device, and also not the most expensive, but it is well worth every penny.

WHAT'S TO LOVE ABOUT THE NOOK COLOR?
  • I am the queen of dogearing pages.  With the Nook, I simply highlight text and add notes.  This has been especially invaluable for book club.
  • Click on any word and get the definition on the spot.  Great for kids who are reading independently, as well as adults who come across ambiguous words every so often.
  • Music! Oh, how I love PANDORA.  With wi-fi, you can connect to the Pandora app and tune in immediately.
  • Magazines look stunning.  This is a huge clutter buster!  You can try any subscription for free through the B&N newsstand. The battery seems to last forever.  I charge habitually, but have never run out of battery power.
  • Nook Kids includes Read to Me and Read and Play options for children.
  • These are only a few of my favorite things.  The list goes on...
As mentioned, I have my NOOK Color, and it is rarely out of reach.  It rests on my night stand to recharge while I sleep and travels with me where ever I go fitting perfectly in my purse.  Now that the apps are plentiful, I not only use my Nook for reading magazines and books, but also for taking notes, checking email and entertaining the kids. I have never been one to read multiple books simultaneously.  Now I am able to read 4-5 books on a single device, all of various genres.

WHAT'S NOT TO LOVE?
My single qualm with the Nook is that although there is an option for password protection on the device and for purchases, there are no parental controls that I have been able to find.  There is an abundance of material that is not child friendly that can be viewed while perusing the shelves of the store.  We discovered this when my daughter innocently searched her name in the Nook store.  Some book covers that popped up were erotic in nature and others were downright disturbing and terrifying, and not intended for children.  It would be optimal to have a parental control setting.  Until then, I will continue to savor my Nook and buy my children traditional paper books.  This actually works for me.
